Student Holds (Service Indicators)
Overview
UCCS places student holds (or service indicators) on student accounts to temporarily restrict specific student actions or to notify students of certain requirements or procedures. Holds are student specific and usually placed on an account when certain requirements have not been met or procedures will need to be followed.
Departments across UCCS require documentation and action from students depending on a student's specific situation. Students must complete action steps listed in these holds to mitigate potential issues. Holds can range in their impact on a student account but most often will block enrollment for a current or upcoming semester. Other impacts include blocking a student from dropping and withdrawing from courses, receiving transcripts, or accessing other services.
Important: Some holds will remain on a student's account as a precaution or identifier and may not require immediate action. For example, a hold may be placed on a student's account to stop the student from withdrawing from courses after census date. This hold will only need attention if the student wishes to withdraw from a course.
It is important for students to review their holds in their myUCCS portal often, especially before registration for an upcoming semester.
Understanding Holds
Holds on your account will include important information on how to resolve the issue(s) and what departments should be contacted if needed.
It is important for students to review their holds in their myUCCS portal often, especially before registration for an upcoming semester.
To view holds:
- Login to the myUCCS portal
- Select the 'Records and Registration' tab
- Select the 'Access Student Self Service' tile
- Select 'Tasks - Holds' icon
Once a hold is selected, you will see further details. See below for a description of what each area in the hold details means:
Hold Item: This is the 'name' of the hold.
Description: This is the CU campus in which the hold was placed and is having an impact on your account. Holds can be put on by any CU campus you have applied to. If you applied to or attended another CU campus then you may have a hold at that campus. These will not impact your account at UCCS but are still important to resolve. Contact that specific campus and listed contact information for assistance.
Start Term: This is the semester that your student account will be impacted by the hold. If this is a future semester, your account is not yet directly impacted. It is important to be aware of the impact of the hold so you are prepared once this 'start term' arrives. For example, if the hold blocks enrollment you will want to resolve it prior to your enrollment appointment for this semester. If you do not, then you will not be able to enroll in courses for this semester. Please note: If the phrase 'Begin Term - Srvc Indi' is listed then this hold is taking immediate effect and impacting all semesters.
Start Date: This is the date in which the hold is active and viewable in your student account. Keep in mind that although the date may be current, only the 'Start Term' will be the semester being impacted by the hold.
Reason: This is a more detailed name for the hold.
Department: Please refer to the 'Instructions' section for the appropriate department to contact regarding the hold.
Instructions: Here you will find the instructions and action steps needing to be followed to resolve the hold. Contact information for the specific department will also be listed in case there are questions or issues. Keep in mind that some holds will remain on a student's account as a precaution or identifier and may not require immediate action. For example, a hold may be placed to stop a student from withdrawing from courses after census date. This hold will only need attention if that student wishes to withdraw from a course.
